- Unless otherwise approved, any and all work in the cemetery may be conducted only by Jewish Memorial Gardens personnel. Work (be that flower planting, placement of ground objects or any other modification of the grounds) by other than Jewish Memorial Gardens personnel can only be done with the written approval of the Jewish Memorial Gardens and in accordance with the requirements specified in the By-laws. Administration Charge
When required, the administration charge is $350.00 This is a direct cost recovery for certain services. It is incurred by requirements such as the issuance of a certificate, the adjustment of data files and other records and other actions needed to satisfy the requirements of the Cemetery Act.
Notes
- This is the cost for the burial of a child in a half size grave site.
Other possibilities exist for a pre-term, at-term or soon-after-term death. These may be discussed with your Jewish Memorial Gardens representative. - Cost of a Plot is the sum of the individual costs of the total cost of the Lots (cost plus care and maintenance) for all of the lots in the plot.
- To be eligible for an Indigent Burial, the representative of the deceased must apply to, and receive from, the City of Ottawa agreement that this burial will be accepted as eligible for payment as an Indigent Burial in order for Jewish Memorial Gardens to proceed.
- If opening and closing is outside of normal hours, there will be an extra charge. Currently, these include an additional charge of $175 for opening and closing on a Sunday and of $275 for opening and closing on a statutory holiday. The opening and closing costs are for the typical burial. if there is a need to bury a limb or another body part, there are smaller opening and closing costs – $425, in the summer and $625 in the winter. This pricing is based on the requirement that Interment Rights have been purchased and will be the site for the burial of the body part. There is a potential additional cost. In addition to the opening and closing costs, there is a required deposit of $1200. This deposit will be refunded in full if a grave site monument (marker) is erected within a two-year period. If such a monument is not erected, the deposit will be spent by JMG to purchase and erect a small marker such that the location of the grave will be properly identified.
- The cost of dis-interment depends upon circumstances such as number of years since interment, the preparation of legal documents, location and time of year.
- There is a charge of $350 to cover the cost of the transfer of interment rights due to the requirements that JMG record the resale, transfer the interment right, issuance of a new interment right certificate and all associated papers.
- A purchaser has the right to cancel an interment rights contract by providing written notice of the cancellation to the Jewish Memorial Gardens within thirty (30) days of signing the interment rights contract. Jewish Memorial Gardens will refund all monies paid by the purchaser within thirty (30) days from the date of the request for cancellation less a fee for the creation of records.
- Following a 30-day cooling off period, a Purchaser may still cancel an Interment Rights purchase if the purchase has not been made in full and an Interment Rights Certificate has not been issued. Upon receiving written notice from the purchaser of the interment rights, Jewish Memorial Gardens will cancel the contract and issue a refund to the purchaser for the amount paid for the interment rights less the amount that was required to be deposited into the Care and Maintenance Fund and less an administration fee. This refund will be made within thirty (30) days of receiving said notice. If the interment rights certificate had been issued to the interment rights holder(s), the certificate must be returned to Jewish Memorial Gardens along with the written notice of cancellation.
- There are at least four costs associated with the preparation of a grave head marker (the monument and its foundation). These costs are borne by the advance provisions of the deceased or by the family or other representatives of the deceased.
1) Purchase of a monument. (To be arranged between the purchaser and the contractor.)
2) Purchase of a foundation. (To be arranged between the purchaser and the contractor.)
3) Care and Maintenance Fee (This is required by the Ontario Government/Cemetery Act, Revised – $200 for a Single monument or $400 for a Double monument)
4) JMG Administration Processing Fee. - Footstones are not permitted except in certain conditions within an existing plot and then to match a previously installed footstone at a lot within the plot. If these conditions do exist, then the costs are as shown in Note I with the understanding that a footstone is treated the same as a single monument.
- All foundations and monuments and markers shall be contracted to be built at the expense of the interment rights holder. The quality of the foundation is the responsibility of the contracted maker and installer, not the Jewish Memorial Gardens. Faulty foundations / monuments / markers in need of repair shall be the joint responsibility of the contractor / supplier and the purchaser. The cost of the actual repair is an amount that is negotiated between the purchaser and the monument maker and installer. There is no care and maintenance contribution specified by the Cemetery Act. There is a JMG cost and it is determined by the amount of work required to review files and to participate in the rectification of the repair requirements.
